🎾 New Junior Tennis Rules Alert!

The PTA has introduced strict Order of Merit rules that will change how junior teams strategise this season. Your #1 player can't suddenly drop to #3, and that reserve player you're counting on? They better not be too good, or you'll forfeit those matches!

What's Changed?

Strict player rankings that can't be shuffled

  • Your #1 player must always play in the #1 position for singles

  • Lower-ranked players can only move up if higher-ranked teammates aren't playing

  • No more strategic position swapping to gain tactical advantages

  • Order must reflect true skill levels (UTR, previous results, projected performance)

UTR limits for substitutes (0.5 buffer rule)

  • Reserve players can't have a UTR more than 0.5 above your team's average

  • All substitute players must have competitive player profiles

  • Exceeding this limit results in automatic match reversals and forfeits

  • Teams must verify UTR ratings before using any fill-in players

Only until Round 8 to fix your order

  • Order of Merit changes must be requested via email to PTA Junior Liaison

  • No modifications allowed after Round 8 - you're locked in for the season

  • Changes require official approval and can't be made on match day

  • Plan your season lineup carefully from the start

Reserve players who are "too good" = automatic forfeit

  • Matches played by non-compliant substitutes are reversed to forfeits

  • Teams lose all points earned by the ineligible player

  • No exceptions or appeals once the breach is discovered

  • Could impact your entire season standings and finals eligibility

The stakes are higher. Teams are already losing matches they thought they won because they didn't understand the substitute player restrictions.
